Your website is your hardest-working employee — it's on the clock 24/7, never takes a vacation, and talks to every potential customer who looks you up. But if it's making any of these five mistakes, it's quietly driving customers straight to your competition.
Mistake one: no clear call to action. If a visitor lands on your site and can't immediately tell what to do next, they leave. 'Call now,' 'Get a free quote,' 'Book online' — whatever you want them to do, make it obvious and make it easy. A button that says 'Click here' means nothing. A button that says 'Get my free draft' tells them exactly what happens.
Mistake two: slow load times. Studies show that 53% of mobile visitors leave a site that takes more than three seconds to load. Three seconds. If your site is packed with heavy images, bloated plugins, or outdated code, you're losing more than half your mobile traffic before they even see your homepage.
Mistake three: ignoring mobile. If your website looks great on a laptop but falls apart on a phone, you have a problem — because most of your visitors are on their phones. Text that's too small to read, buttons too tiny to tap, menus that don't work on touchscreens — these are conversion killers. Every site I build is mobile-first, period.
Mistake four: no contact info above the fold. 'Above the fold' means what visitors see before they scroll. If your phone number, email, or a contact button isn't visible the moment the page loads, you're making people work to reach you. Put your phone number in the header. Make it clickable. Make it impossible to miss.
Mistake five: outdated content. If your site still says 'Copyright 2021' or lists services you no longer offer, visitors notice. An outdated website signals that your business might not be active — or worse, might not care. Fresh content, current photos, and up-to-date info tell visitors you're open, active, and ready for their business.
The good news? Every one of these mistakes is fixable. If your website is guilty of any of them, let's talk. Call or text me at (989) 350-5433, and I'll show you exactly what's costing you customers — and how to fix it.
