Google reviews are gold for a local business. They build trust, they boost your ranking in local search, and they give potential customers the confidence to pick up the phone. But most small businesses struggle to get them — not because customers aren't happy, but because nobody asks.
The secret to getting more reviews is simple: ask at the right moment. The best time is right after a customer has had a great experience — the job is done, they're happy, and the positive feeling is fresh. That's when you say, 'I'm so glad you're happy with the work. Would you mind leaving a quick review on Google? It really helps small businesses like mine.'
Make it easy. Don't just say 'leave a review' and hope they figure it out. Send them a direct link to your Google review page. The fewer steps between 'sure' and 'submitted,' the more reviews you'll get.
Don't be afraid to follow up. People are busy. A gentle reminder a few days later — 'Hey, just following up on that review, here's the link again' — works wonders. Most people aren't ignoring you, they just forgot.
Respond to every review, good or bad. Thank people for positive reviews. For negative ones, respond professionally and try to make it right. Future customers read your responses, and how you handle a bad review says more about you than the review itself.
Reviews are one of the easiest, cheapest ways to grow your business — but only if you're actively collecting them. If you want help setting up a review system, call or text me at (989) 350-5433.
