How a Small-Town Business Got Leads for $7.15 Each With Facebook Ads

August 18, 2026 5 min readBy Carson Gahm

I ran Facebook ads for a small-town company recently, and the results were better than either of us expected. Within the first week of launching the campaign, the leads were coming in at an average cost of $7.15 each. By the end of that first week, his entire summer of marketing was paid for — every dollar he put into ads had already come back through new customer bookings.

That's not a typo. Seven dollars and fifteen cents per lead. For a local service business where each new customer is worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, that's a ridiculous return. Let me break down exactly how this worked and why Facebook ads are so powerful for local businesses when they're done right.

The first thing to understand is that Facebook ads for a local business are completely different from running ads nationally. You're not trying to reach everyone — you're trying to reach the exact people in your area who are most likely to need your service. For this campaign, we targeted homeowners within a specific radius of the business, narrowed by interests and behaviors that matched their ideal customer. No wasted impressions on people three states away who would never hire them.

The ad creative mattered too. We didn't use a generic stock photo and a boring headline. We used real photos of the work, a clear offer, and a call-to-action that told people exactly what to do — request a quote. People scroll fast, and your ad needs to stop them in under a second. A bold image and a specific, compelling offer does that.

Here's the part most businesses get wrong: they run ads without a way to capture leads. If someone clicks your ad and lands on a confusing website with no clear way to contact you, that click is wasted. We sent traffic to a simple, fast landing page with one job — get the visitor to submit their info or call. That's how you turn $7.15 into a paying customer instead of just a click.

The math is what makes this so exciting. If your average customer is worth $500, and you're getting leads for $7.15, you only need one out of every ten leads to become a customer to be wildly profitable. One out of ten. That's a 10% close rate, which is completely realistic for a well-targeted local campaign. Most businesses close at a higher rate than that when the leads are this targeted.

This is why I tell small business owners that Facebook ads aren't a gamble — they're an investment, when they're set up correctly. The problem is that most businesses either don't run ads at all, or they run them wrong and conclude that 'ads don't work.' They work. You just need someone who knows how to target the right people, write the right creative, and send traffic to the right place.

If you've been curious about Facebook ads but didn't want to waste money figuring it out yourself, that's exactly what I do. I handle the targeting, the creative, the landing page, and the optimization — and you get clear reporting so you know exactly what your leads cost and what you're getting in return.
